Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue Division Chief of Fire Prevention Garth Schumacher says when a smoke alarm sounds exit the home as quickly as possible. If your alarm begins to chirp it may mean the battery needs to be replaced. If the batteries are replaced and the chirp sound continues the smoke alarm may need replacing. Test all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms monthly. Schumacher says if you need a smoke alarm call the Fire Department. Schumachers says far too often when firefighters arrive on the scene of a fire there are no working smoke alarms.
