10-29-21 waupun school budget

A Waupun School District budget includes a tax rate decrease, but the school superintendent says a state school funding plan approved by the Republican controlled legislature could make it difficult in future years.   At their annual meeting this week the Waupun School Board approved a tax levy that includes a tax rate that’s down nearly a dollar from the current rate.   Superintendent Steve Hill says the Waupun School District didn’t actually get any additional money from the state.  “When they (legislature) held us at the exact same rate as we were in the past then we have to look at what we can do different.  The legislature claims we get all that ESSER money.  Thats supplanting dollars that were already going to be there.  So there’s no new money,”  Hill told WFLD news.  Hill says the loss of students to open enrollment also has an impact.  Hill says the challenge will come in future years if state aid to schools is not increased.
