11-17-21 winter weather awareness week

Winter in Wisconsin can be a time for fun outdoors, but the snow, ice and cold can also be dangerous for those not ready for them.  Governor Tony Evers has declared this week as Winter Awareness Week in Wisconsin.  National Weather Service meteorologist Kevin Wagner says Wisconsin experiences an average of three to six winter storms during the season.  Last winter the city of Hurley in Iron County received the highest one day snowfall of 14 inches on December 24.   Land O’ Lakes in Vilas County recorded 83.2 inches of snow last winter.  The coldest temperature recorded in the state last winter was 41 below zero on February 15 in Barnes, in Bayfield County.  Wagner says one of the best ways to stay safe is stay informed about the weather.  Stock up on additional supplies and make sure you have an emergency kit  at home and in your vehicle.  Make sure your furnace is serviced regularly and ensure carbon monoxide detectors are working properly.
