11-23-21 fdl judge paul czisny will not seek election in april

Recently appointed Fond du Lac County Circuit Judge Paul Czisny has announced he will  not be seeking  election in April of next year.  Czisny says he is committed to retiring at age 65, which means he would not be able to serve out his term if elected next spring.     “While I have  thoroughly enjoyed my service as a circuit court judge in Fond du Lac County, my wife and I are committed to retiring in June, 2024, when I reach age 65.   Should I run and be elected to a six year term next spring, I would be asking the people of this county to grant me a term in office that I frankly would have no intention of serving out,”  Czisny said.   “Given that I would likely have opposition in this election, I would not only be committing my own  financial resources and time to an effort to secure less than one-third of a six year tenure, friends and supporters would also provide their resources and assistance to that end when I am fully aware that I do not plan to complete that time in office. I feel that running a campaign under  those   circumstances would be disingenuous and unfair to those intending to support me.”   Governor Tony Evers appointed  Czisny to  fill a vacancy created by Judge Robert Wirtz’s  retirement, effective May 2.    Before he was appointed judge Czisny was  a criminal defense attorney and  before that  was a state public defender for 20 years.  He also served on the city of Fond du Lac Ethics Board.
