A retired Ripon College economist says the latest U.S. jobless claims are another sign that the U.S. job market is rebounding rapidly from last year's coronavirus recession.  The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits plummeted by 71,000 to 199,000.   Economist Paul Schoofs says that's the lowest number since mid-November 1969.  Schoofs notes the four-week average of claims. which smooths out weekly ups and downs, also dropped, by 21,000 to just over 252,000, […]

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The city of Milwaukee has seen nearly 200 homicides so far this year.  As of Tuesday the city had recorded 175 homicides in 2021. The city saw 189 homicides last year after recording 98 in 2019. MILWAUKEE (AP) — Children’s Wisconsin said eight patients injured in last weekend’s Christmas parade crash in suburban Milwaukee are still being treated at the hospital. The facility originally received 16 patients after the driver of a red SUV roared through the parade in Waukesha, killing six people and injuring more than 60. MILWAUKEE (AP) — A survey of Midwest farm bankers found Wisconsin farmland values are up 10% from the same period in 2020. A farm appraiser says the rise in land values is driven by strong commodity prices, and demand from non-farm buyers. 11-29-21 brownsville apartment fire

Nobody was injured in a fire that damaged a Brownsville apartment.  At approximately 7:30am Sunday morning  Brownsville firefighters responded to a fire at a four unit apartment building on Main Street.    Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire in the second story apartment bedroom,  but not before the fire caused major fire and  smoke damage.  Eight people in the apartment complex were displaced  and are being assisted by the Red Cross.    The cause […]

11-29-21 injury crash-hwy 151 and county hwy tc

One person was seriously injured in a two vehicle crash in Fond du Lac County.  According to the Fond du lac County Sheriff's Office a car traveling eastbound on Highway TC failed to stop for a stop sign colliding with a southbound SUV on Highway 151.    A female passenger in the car was transported to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du lac with serious injuries.  The driver received minor injuries.  No occupants of the […]

1-25-21 four more covid-19 deaths in fdl county

Four more COVID-19 deaths have been reported in Fond du Lac County.  The deaths include a 43 year old woman and three men, ages 63, 67 and 86.   There have now been 157 COVID-19 deaths in Fond du Lac County since the pandemic  started.

1-25-21 holiday light displays at area parks

The Fond du Lac Lakeside Park  Holiday Lights and Lightshow is open to the public starting this holiday weekend.  Visitors can drive through the park to view Santa and Rudolph at the Lighthouse and numerous other displays throughout the park.  The lights will come on from dawn to dusk through January 1.  The Fond du Lac Noon Rotary is sponsoring a light show synchronized with holiday lights.   The holiday lights are being […]
