The Fond du Lac County executive says Mercury Marine’s expansion announcement this week is good news for Fond du Lac. Merc announced it was moving it’s distribution facility to Indiana, but expanding both its foundry and machining facilities in Fond du Lac. County executive Al Buechel says even though Fond du Lac is losing the distribution center there will probably be an increase in employment locally. Merc spokesman Lee Gordon says Merc discussed the possibility of keeping the distribution center in Fond du Lac, but ultimately decided the move was necessary to meet customer demand. “While its (distribution center) a fantastic facility we need that space for production,” Gordon told WFDL news. Gordon says it would have taken more than a year to build a brand new facility and customers want their engines now.
