With the sturgeon spearing season getting underway this weekend the Fond du Lac County Sheriff is warning people to check ice conditions before heading out on Lake Winnebago. The warning comes after a Fond du Lac man escaped injury Saturday when his pickup truck broke through thin ice about a half mile north of Frazier Point at Lakeside Park. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says a huge ice crack spans several miles from near Frazier Point north into Winnebago County. Waldschmidt says people who have experience on the lake during the winter says the crack is significant and something they haven’t seen in decades.
