Is omicron leading us closer to herd immunity against COVID? The vice president of pharmacy services with SSM Health Wisconsin Region Mo Kharbat thinks so. “From what we are seeing today it will likely lead us closer and closer to herd immunity because it spreads so fast, so many people cause infection and clear the infection and have antibodies against COVID. So whether you gain your antibodies through vaccination or infection or both, you should be protected against COVID-19 caused by the variants that we’ve seen so far,” Kharbat told WFDL news. Kharbat says the challenge is that it is unknown if other variants will form. He says as of today there are not any major variants of concern. Kharbat says since omicron peaked a little more than a month ago, the dramatic drop in cases is great news.
