A town of Fond du Lac resident has announced he is running as a Republican for the state Assembly seat being vacated by retiring state representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt. Jerry O’Connor has announced his candidacy for the 52nd Assembly District seat. O’Connor says Americans are facing challenges on nearly every front from rising inflation and social conflicts with shrinking wallets and opportunities for the next generation’s workforce. He says much of this is the direct result of short-term socialist minded progressive policies. O’Connor says if he is elected he would work in the legislature to help create jobs. O’Connor says he supports pro-life, family issues, and school choice. He says he disagrees with Department of Public Instruction estimates that making most private school students eligible for private school vouchers could raise property taxes by more than $570 million. “I really question that. That is a smoke and mirrors for me,” O’Connor told WFDL news. O’Connor also said he believes the Republican-ordered Gableman investigation into the 2020 presidential election is not necessary given the other investigations that have already been done. O’Connor is a retired bank executive, has served on the Fond du Lac Area Economic Development and Agri-Business Boards, and Board Chair for several organizations including the Rotary Club.
