Three people have taken out nomination papers to run for county executive, but one of the individuals already says he is withdrawing his candidacy. County board supervisor Sam Kaufman, Eden resident Jim Hess and Ripon resident Doug Iverson have submitted declaration of candidacy paperwork with the Fond du Lac County Clerk’s Office. Hess told WFDL news he support’s Kaufman’s candidacy and will not be running for the office. Candidates have until 5pm on Tuesday April 12th to collect 500 signatures and returning nomination papers to the clerk’s office. If more than three candidates are running a primary election would be held in May. A special election is scheduled for June 7. The special election was called following the death of county executive Al Buechel. Buechel died March 27 from a heart attack. The winner of the special election will fill out the remainder of the term through April 2025.
