A gas leak forced an evacuation in the city of Waupun. A construction crew hit a gas main Friday afternoon near Madison and Doty Streets. Waupun Utilities shut off power to the area and nearby homes were evacuated. Approximately 350 customers were affected. The Waupun Senior Center was opened as a temporary shelter for anyone who needed power however it wasn’t utilized. After approximately one hour, power was restored to all but two houses in the immediately area of the leak. Alliant crews isolated
the gas leak and were able to crimp the lines feeding the leak. Gas service to five homes in the immediate area was off for approximately five hours. The all clear for residents to return to their homes was given around 6 p.m.
