Fond du Lac Fire Chief Erik Gerritson has been sworn into office. A pinning ceremony was held Wednesday at the South Main Street Fire Station. The Fond du Lac Police and Fire Commission selected Gerritson earlier this month. He was the lone finalist for the position out of nine applicants from across the country and Canada. Gerritson had been serving as interim chief following the retirement of longtime chief Pete O’Leary in April. Gerritson says one of his top priorities as chief will be improving diversity in the Department. Gerritson is a Waupun native, beginning his career in the Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department before he was hired in Fond du Lac 20 years ago. Since that time Gerritson has steadily moved up the ranks.
