Groundbreaking ceremonies have been held for a new girls locker room at the Fond du Lac Blue Line Family Ice Center. CD Smith has been hired as the general contractor for the more than $700,000, 2800 square foot addition. The facility will include three female locker rooms…one for the WarBirds and two secondary locker rooms for youth athletes. Girls hockey director Christine Rottman says the fundraising effort began about 18 months ago with a generous anonymous donation. “The girls youth program is a feeder program into the high school. When I first started we had 17 girls on one team. As of this year we will be providing A-level and B-level teams across the age spectrum. That’s 107 girls this year,” Rottman told WFDL news. Rottman and Erik Spies with the Warbirds Booster Club both say they are very thankful for the donations and proud that construction is finally underway. “Very proud,” Spies told WFDL news. “Christine and I have put a lot of effort into this through the design phase, working with a local architect, getting our contracting team together.” Rottman says it’s been a very special project. “…one that we hold close to our hearts having daughters in the program. This is something we wanted to leave a mark that was going to stand for generations to come.” The project is scheduled for completion this fall.
