The Fond du Lac County Clerk says while she did not receive a subpoena she did meet with former state Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman and members of his staff while he was investigating the 2020 election. Assembly speaker Robin Vos fired Gableman two weeks ago, and officially ended the investigation last Friday when he withdrew subpoenas sent by Gableman to mayors across the state. Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says early in the investigation she met with Gableman. “…and discussed what the county clerk’s duties are, what is expected on election day, to try to give him (Gableman) what elections look like. We also talked about the (election) machines.” Freiberg says Gableman sent a couple of his staff to her office to discuss the voting machines. “Which I welcomed. Showed them what the machine does. I spent an hour or so in my office,” Freiberg told WFDL news. Freiberg says at this point she doesn’t know what the legacy of the investigation will be, but is glad it’s over. “I hope it sits on our shelf and has s foot of dust on it,” Freiberg said. The investigation cost taxpayers more than $1 million and yielded no evidence of election fraud.
