9-8-22 dhs-polio alert

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  is encouraging health care providers to to be on the lookout for polio cases and to reinforce routine childhood polio  vaccination  following the recent polio outbreak in New York state.  The Wisconsin Department of Health and Human Services sent out a statewide memo recently  to health care providers about a Clinician Outreach and Communication Activity call to discuss how to report suspected cases and recommendations for polio vaccinations.  Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says it seems wierd to be talking about a disease that was supoosedly eradicated in the United States.  The CDC is currently investigating a polio case in New York state in an unvacinated patient.
