Sheriff’s deputies helped extinguish a fire that was starting to spread out of control on a Fond du Lac County farm. Shortly after 2:30am Wednesday a passerby reported a large fire at W3216 Highway 23 with flames spreading to nearby trees. Sheriff’s deputies used fire extinguishers from their squad cars to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby RV and Mount Calvary firefighters extinguished the fire. The fire was contained to an outdoor pigpen. The homeowner advised they keep a heater outside for the livestock in the pen. The pen was also surrounded with hay bales. It is believed the windy conditions caused the heater to fall, and come in contact with the hay. One pig died in the fire, and several bales of hay caught on fire. No other animals were injured in the fire.
