Investigators say speed and alcohol were factors in a one vehicle crash in Fond du Lac County that claimed the life of a teenager and injured two other teens. The crash happened shortly before 3:30am Saturday on Golf Course Drive east of Taft Road. The driver, a 16 year old Mount Calvary area boy, was flown by helicopter to Theda Care Regional Medical Center in Neenah with life-threatening injuries. A front seat passenger, a 16 year old male from Eldorado, was pronounced dead at the scene. A back seat passenger, a 16 year old Fond du Lac girl, was transported to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac with non life-threatening injuries. A preliminary investigation showed that the vehicle was westbound on Golf Course Drive at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control. The vehicle left the road striking a tree. Each of the juveniles involved attend different high schools, and sheriff’s officials are notifying school administrators from Laconia High School in Rosendale, St. Mary’s Springs Academy in Fond du Lac, and Fond du Lac High School so they can prepare to assist students as needed.
