Fond du Lac city officials want residents to know that when it snows using more salt doesn’t actually make streets or sidewalks safer. This is Wisconsin Salt Awareness Week. Fond du Lac Operations superintendent Adam Schmitt says municipalities across the state are dialing in salt use through improved mechanical removal, calibration and the precision application of deicers. Schmitt says road salt poses threats to rivers, lakes, drinking water, and infrastructure.
