A Fond du Lac family medicine physician says local health care providers are on alert, but so far have not seen any cases of pediatric invasive group A strep infections. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a Health Advisory to notify clinicians and public health authorities of a recent increase in the virus. SSM Health Greater Fond du Lac Family Medicine physician, Dr. Taha El Shahat, says strep throat is common among school-aged children. The virus tends to have a pronounced seasonal pattern with a peak in December through April.
