Fond du Lac native Loren Voss beat the odds the first time he was diagnosed with cancer more than 30 years ago after doctors gave him just six months to live. Voss survived the cancer and was able to watch his three children grow up, get married, and have children of their own. Voss loves to turkey hunt, earning the nickname “Wisconsin Turkey Commander” after harvesting more than 150 turkeys. He has traveled across the state participating in hunting seminars and taking cancer patients turkey hunting. Last year Voss was dealt another challenge when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and late last year suffered a heart attack. But with every challenge he’s faced Voss says he “Feels blessed.” With the help of his oncology nurse, Barb Kraft, Voss wrote a book about his life’s journey titled “Living on Death Row.” He says his faith in God gave him the strength to move forward. His message to others facing a health challenge is “Don’t spend today on what may happen tomorrow. Then you lose today.”
