MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Republicans are poised to block a new policy from Democratic Gov. Tony Evers requiring students to get vaccinated against meningitis and tightening student chickenpox vaccination mandates. Evers’ administration announced a new policy in February that requires students entering 7th and 12th grades to get meningitis shots. The policy also requires parents to provide schools with proof that their children has had chickenpox to avoid those shots. In the past, parents only had to say their children had been sick with the disease. The Legislature’s Republican-controlled rules committee is set to block the policy, starting with a public hearing Tuesday on the changes.
