3-14-23 avian influenza warning

The Wisconsin Department of Ag, Trade and Consumer Protecting is reminding poultry owners of the ongoing threat of highly pathogenic avian influenza.  The spring migratory period for wild birds brings increased risk of infection to all flocks.  Fond du Lac County Dairy and Livestock extension agent Tina Kohlman says all poultry owners should continue to use the strongest biosecurity measures to protect their birds.   The warning comes after 29 domestic flocks in 18 counties including Fond du Lac County were confirmed with highly pathogenic avian influenza last year.   Nationwide, more than 58.5 million birds have died from the virus, making it the largest animal disease outbreak in U.S. history.
