The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is warning people to stay off the ice after a Fond du Lac area man was rescued after falling through thin ice on a pond. The incident happened Monday evening on a pond along Deadwood Point Road near Lake Winnebago. Sheriff’s captain Bill Tadych says the 21 year old man fell through the ice while trying to rescue a pet dog, but was able to get back to shore. He got in a Jon boat and went back to get the dog where he became stuck on the ice. The town of Calumet Fire Department rescued the man who was treated at the scene for symptoms of hypothermia. Tadych says ice conditions on area bodies of water are poor. Tadych says the Sheriff’s Office is warning people to stay off the ice. But he says if you are on the ice make sure to take safety precautions.
