3-24-23 fdl county board approves arpa funds for county parks

Fond du Lac County will be directing more than $600,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds to make improvements at county parks.  The county board this week approved a resolution to spend $610,000 in ARPA funds for various projects at multiple county owned parks.  “We’re looking at trails, we’re looking at (Camp) Shaginappi, for example.  We’re looking at a new parking lot area, renovating the lodge out there,”  Kaufman told WFDL news.   Acquired in 1997,  Shaginappi is the site of a former Boy Scout camp. Shaginappi Park is located at W3220 Velvet Beach Rd., Malone.  The park is a natural area of 100 acres of wetlands, lakeshore, woods and prairie and is situated adjacent to Columbia Park, sharing Calumet Harbor.   “…at Waupun County Park, creating some new areas out there, I’ll be meeting with the (Waupun) mayor (Rohn Bishop) on,”  Kaufman said.   Kaufman says it’s important to improve the quality of the county parks and to attract more people to the parks. “We’re trying to do things to enhance the beauty of the parks and promoting the parks.”
