March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month, and doctors and health advocates are sounding the alarm on a disturbing trend: More younger Americans are getting diagnosed with the disease. SSM Health Greater Fond du Lac gastroenterologist Dr. Nathan Slinde says there may be several factors including lifestyle. What’s more troubling is that many of the cases are at an advanced stage. Some studies estimate the disease could become the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. for people ages 20-49 by the year 2040.
