5-30-23 memorial day parade, service

Hundreds of  residents gathered along Main Street and at Veterans Park Monday for the Fond du Lac Memorial Day parade and program.   The parade started at Rees and Main Streets by the Police Station, traveling south on Main to Veterans Park.    Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1904 of Fond du Lac hosted the Memorial Day program, and Army Veteran and Executive Director of the Fond du Lac Area Foundation Aaron Sadoff was the keynote speaker.   Town of Byron veterans were honored at the annual Memorial Day tribute on  at the Byron Town Hall and Veterans Memorial.  The keynote address was delivered by Byron’s Marlin Towne, a Korean War veteran who served with the 38 th Infantry Scout Dog Platoon in Korea from 1953-1954.   American Legion Post 347 of Lomira and VFW Post 8092 of Oakfield conducted a color guard/rifle squad salute and a roll call of veterans laid to rest at Bethel, Byron, and St. John’s cemeteries in the Town of Byron.   The Town of Byron Veterans Memorial was dedicated on May 30, 2005 to honor the men and women from the Town of Byron who served our country in war and peace. The Veterans Memorial Committee continues its research for names of veterans who lived or are laid to rest in the Town of Byron.
