Improperly discarded smoking materials are blamed for an early morning fire at a popular Fond du Lac restaurant. Shortly after 1am Friday firefighters were called to a report of smoke and flames on an outside wall at Fat Joe’s bar and Restaurant. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the inside of a wall on the rear of the building. The fire was quickly extinguished and firefighters overhauled the area behind the siding before the fire could spread. The bar was evacuated, and once smoke was cleared the occupants were allowed back in the building. The Fire Investigator determined the fire originated from improperly discarded smoking materials in a plastic pail. Employees of the bar are credited with using a fire extinguisher to knock down the fire and contact the Fire department.
