A jury trial has been scheduled for next spring to determine whether the so-called Halloween Killer, Gerald Turner, should be released or remain in custody. Following a hearing this month a four day jury trial was scheduled to begin April 16th, 2024. The 73 year old Turner was convicted of killing nine year old Lisa Ann French while she was trick or treating in Fond du Lac on Halloween, 1973. Turner was initially scheduled for release in 2018, but the Wisconsin Department of Justice filed a petition with the court saying he was a sexually violent person who should remain in a secure mental health facility. In February of last year a Fond du Lac judge ruled that Turner would remain confined at a secure mental health facility, and found probably cause for the commitment proceedings to continue.
