Improperly discarded smoking materials are blamed for a fire that damaged a Fond du Lac apartment. Thursday afternoon Fond du Lac firefighters were called to 309 Ledgewood Drive to find smoke coming from the attic and flames visible from a second story porch on the rear of the building. The apartment building was evacuated and firefighters quickly brought the fire under control. Nobody was injured. The apartment where the fire started and the unit directly below are uninhabitable. All other residents of the complex were able to return to their apartment units. Investigators determined the fire originated from improperly discarded smoking materials on the second story porch of the building.
