SSM Health Adult Day Services, 420 E. Merrill Avenue, Fond du Lac, will be hosting an open house from 5 – 7 pm on Wednesday, September 20. The open house will feature tours, opportunities to meet staff, and light refreshments. Adult Day Services is a day program that helps meet the health care, personal care and socialization needs of the elderly, chronically ill and disabled in the Fond du Lac area. In the past 37 years, Adult Day Services has grown dramatically starting as a single hospital room at SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital to its current location. Clients can include individuals that need to be monitored and treated for health concerns, are recovering from hospital care, or need someone to watch them while a loved one works or takes a needed break. Clients benefit from medication administration, personal care (bathing, hair and nail care), healthy mind games (cards, games, exercise, community outings) and more. They can attend full or half days, and from one to five days per week based on their individual needs. “Adult day care programs can provide caregivers with a needed break while giving older people a chance to socialize with their peers and alleviate the isolation and loneliness that many experience,” according to Julie Schwartz, RN, Adult Day Services supervisor. “Evidence shows that older people who attend these centers have a better quality of life as they benefit from health-related, social, psychological and behavioral benefits, particularly those with dementia and other cognitive impairments.” Adult Day Services is open Mondays through Fridays from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm.
