10-6-23 grass routes tour rolls into fdl

Senate Democratic Leader Melissa Agard  hosted a town hall in Fond du Lac as part of her  “Grass Routes” tour promoting marijuana legalization in Wisconsin.  “In Wisconsin the fiscal estimates, which I think are conservative, show it (marijuana legalization) would be over $165 million a year in additional revenue for Wisconsin,”  Agard told WFDL news.  People in Wisconsin are choosing to drive to legal states to purchase their cannabis despite the fact that we have a really successful illicit industry in Wisconsin.  We’re not introducing something new here.”   Agard says many Republican lawmakers tell her privately they support her bill to legalize recreational marijuana.  “There are lawmakers in the capitol building that have an R next to their name that would vote for this bill.”  “I also know that that in Wisconsin, seven out of 10 people full legalization.  Over 80 percent medicinal (marijuana).  Anyone that has run for office knows that a 70 percent margin is pretty much a mandate.”    Agard says she would consider it a success if her bill would get a legislative hearing.   The town hall was held Thursday afternoon at the Fond du Lac Public Library.
