10-25-23 fdl school board adopts budget

The Fond du Lac School Board has approved the 2023-24 budget and tax levy.  School District Chief of Finance and Operations Mike Gerlach says the budget reflects the spending of $5.3 million for a new artificial turf football stadium and includes a tax levy increase of 13.7 percent.  “It doesn’t mean each individual’s property value is going to go up 13.7 percent.  The mill rate is going to be $6.46 per thousand, so for a $100,000 home, that’s about a 12 cent increase per thousand from last year’s mill rate,”  Gerlach told WFDL news.  Gerlach says that still projected to be the second lowest mill rate in Fond du Lac County.  Superintendent Dr. Jeff Fleig says the biggest challenge for the district moving forward is declining enrollment, and more students leaving the district through school choice than coming in:
