Another Wisconsin university has announced major layoffs to reduce budget deficits. The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is eliminating 111 positions, or 12% of its workforce. Sixty employees will be laid off, 31 open positions will be cut and 32 people agreed to a voluntary separation agreement. Eleven faculty are retiring. Earlier this month, UW-Oshkosh announced 140 people were being laid off and another 110 positions were being eliminated through early retirements or vacancies to help close an $18 million deficit. The Universities of Wisconsin president announced this month the UWO-Fond du Lac campus would close at the end of June.
