An historic downtown Fond du Lac brick building that housed a doctor’s office that was later converted to a carriage house for horse-drawn funeral carriages before the turn of the 19th century has moved to a new home. The 1860’s brick building was moved from it’s current location on South Marr Street to 127 North Main Street…across the street from the Fond du Lac Police station. State Farm insurance agent Sam Meyer says the building was originally built by former Fond du Lac mayor Doctor T.J. Patchen circa 1860. Meyer says the Italianate architectural style building still has the medical Caduceus symbol above the front windows. The building was later acquired by St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and used for storage. Meyer plans to fully restore the building over the next year and relocate his insurance agency to the building late next year.
