The City of Fond du Lac has finalized contracts with three humane officer organizations who will continue providing animal control services to the city in 2024. Critter Junction, Lucky Dog and Sandi Paws will provide a variety of vital animal control services to the city – including taking custody of stray and abandoned dogs and cats, and attempting to reunite pets with their owners – under a uniform payment structure. A fourth organization, the Fond du Lac Humane Society, has asked to have a contract with the City to serve as an animal control facility, which continues their role of housing stray and abandoned animals. These contracts are the result of a negotiation meeting with all four organizations last month. “The dedication and tireless efforts of each of these organizations over the years have played an integral role in delivering essential animal welfare services to our community,” said City Manager Joe Moore. “Our meeting with the humane officer organizations last month resulted in a useful and productive sharing of ideas, and the resulting contracts achieve the City’s goal of having quality, 24/7 animal control support under a uniform payment structure.” By establishing these new contracts, the City continues its commitment to providing equitable compensation that honors the work and services each organization provides the community while ensuring the city’s animal control needs are met. Based on 2023 data, the City estimates that 700 domesticated animals, including approximately 200 dogs and 500 cats, will be surrendered to or taken into possession by the three City-appointed humane officer organizations.
