12-11-23 high speed chase-fdl

A Fond du Lac man faces multiple charges following a high speed chase in Fond du Lac.   The chase started about 5pm Friday when a police officer conducting a traffic stop at Fourth and Main Streets learned the driver had an outstanding warrant.  The chase was terminated shortly after the driver fled at a high rate of speed.  A sheriff’s deputy spotted the suspect vehicle on Martin Avenue near 11th Street and a pursuit ensued with the suspect  turning onto Highway 151 southbound and later merging onto Interstate 41 northbound.  Due to the heavy traffic the pursuit was terminated, but moments later the vehicle began to slow, pulling to the shoulder and the driver and passenger exited the vehicle which rolled off the Interstate into a marsh before coming to a stop.   With the help of the Sheriff and Police K9 officers the driver, a 21-year-old Fond du Lac man, and  passenger, a 19-year-old Fond du Lac woman were taken into custody.   The driver was booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail on charges of Felony Operator Flee/Elude an Officer – 2 counts, First Degree Reckless Endangering Safety, Second Degree Reckless Endangering Safety, Misdemeanor Bail Jumping, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting/Obstructing an Officer and Threats to Law Enforcement. Also held on the warrant mentioned above and issued several traffic tickets stemming from the pursuit.   The passenger was released with charges of Resisting/Obstructing an Officer, referred to the District Attorney’s Office.
