The Fond du Lac County executive says wages for county employees need to be adjusted so the county can remain competitive. A consultant presented a compensation analysis at Tuesday night’s county board meeting. County executive Sam Kaufman says Fond du Lac County wages are behind other counties in several areas and he says that has become problematic when it comes to filling positions. Kaufman says while some departments pay on average compared to other counties, he was surprised to learn that many areas, like nurses and jailers for example, were well below the 50th percentile for wages. Kaufman says total cost to bring wages up is estimated at $1.9 million. Kaufman says the county is also discussing being able to use some sales tax revenue to help offset the cost. The last wage study for Fond du Lac County government was done more than 20 years ago.
