When it comes to your heart Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney knows first hand the importance of not ignoring the symptoms. Last fall Toney learned a bacterial infection had damaged his right aortic heart valve, and in November he underwent open heart surgery for an aortic valve replacement and coronary bypass at the SSM Health Dale Michaels Heart and Vascular Care Center in Fond du Lac. Before his diagnosis and surgery, the 39 year old Toney had been experiencing fatigue, muscle soreness, many symptoms generally associated with the flu. “I decided I wanted to talk about it because I had somebody close to me pass away because of a cardiac issue, and just how important it is to not ignore those symptoms,” Toney told WFDL news. Toney says it was a whirlwind of an experience that you would never wish upon anyone. More than a month after surgery, Toney says he is feeling great. Toney says doctors have told him moving forward there are no limitations except those he puts on himself.
