1-8-24 fdl county law enforcement continues investigation into fatal rollover, hit and run

Fond du Lac County law enforcement is asking for the public’s help as the investigation continues into a fatal rollover crash and subsequent hit and run crash.  The crash happened shortly after 1am Sunday December 31.  Nineteen year old Jatziel Encarnacion of West Bend is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on a charge of Hit and Run Causing Great Bodily Harm.   He is accused of striking a 19 year old Hartford woman after she was ejected from a vehicle involved in a rollover crash on Highway 45 near Sandy Road.   She was found dead after being dragged by the vehicle for three miles into Washington County.   Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says investigators believe Encarnacion also struck another individual at the initial crash scene.   That person remains in the hospital in critical condition.  Waldschmidt says the teens and young adults had been at an underage drinking party at a town of Auburn residence in Fond du Lac County earlier in the evening.   “We’re working to determine who may have consumed alcohol and or drugs, what those drinks and or drugs were, and how or if that played a role in this crash,  and the sequence of events that happened after the crash,”  Waldschmidt said.   Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says anyone with information about the party or the individuals involved is asked to contact law enforcement.   Waldschmidt says detectives are continuing their investigation and could refer formal charges to the District Attorney as early as next week.
