The Fond du Lac County Board has approved implementation of a wage plan for county employees. County executive Sam Kaufman says Fond du Lac County wages are behind other counties in several areas and he says that has become problematic when it comes to filling positions. Kaufman says while some departments pay on average compared to other counties, he was surprised to learn that many areas, like nurses and jailers for example, were well below the 50th percentile for wages. Kaufman says total cost to bring wages up is estimated at $1.9 million. Kaufman says the county will use sales tax revenue to help offset the cost. The last wage study for Fond du Lac County government was done more than 20 years ago.
