partnering with organizations across the nation to spotlight the threats that road salt poses to our rivers, lakes and drinking water.

Winter Salt Awareness Week will feature daily livestreams from ecologists, transportation experts and other salt-wise speakers from across the United States. Come learn more about the environmental toll of deicers, salts in our drinking water, actions that municipalities are taking, and how residents can get involved! Here at Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance, we work across our entire basin to promote stormwater education and support our local municipalities. Participating and promoting events like Winter Salt Awareness Week is a small part of what we do on an annual basis to support and educate our communities and residence. We additionally, promote year round education resources and provide volunteer opportunities, like Chloride (salt) monitoring to get residence involved in citizen science and promote behavioral changes during winter to make both our residents and our environment safe! Using more salt than is necessary doesn’t actually make our roads or sidewalks safer. Excess salt does prematurely age infrastructure and damage freshwater resources. Municipalities across the state are dialing in salt use through improved mechanical removal, calibration, and the precision application of deicers. By focusing on first removing as much snow as possible, and then right-sizing salt applications, residents and businesses can cut down how much we
spend on salt, protect our freshwater lakes and rivers, and keep pavements safe. Northeast Wisconsin Stormwater Consortium, a subsidiary of the Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance,
is an ally of the WI Salt Wise Partnership. Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance is a non-profit organization that works with partners to protect and restore the water resources of the Fox-
Wolf River Basin. We believe a wholistic approach to watershed management is necessary in order to meet water quality goals. Fox-Wolf is focused on finding cost effective, science-based solutions, and working with partners to maximize efficiencies bringing resources to those who are already doing great work and utilizing our strengths to fill the gaps when needed
