Wisconsin Republican congressman Glenn Grothman voted against a short-term spending bill last week to avert a partial government shutdown and fund federal agencies into March. Grothman says his main concern is that the bill did nothing to address the problems at the U.S.-Mexico border. “Even if we had done more messaging on the border and educated the public about the lack of deportations, that would have been okay for me,” Grothman told AM 1170s Between the Lines program. “But ultimately we’ve got to deal with the border and it was another major piece of legislation that had to be passed and could have included language on the border, and we did not.” About half of Republicans joined with Democrats in passing the third stopgap spending measure in recent months.
