1-26-24 aaa warns residents about ice dams

With temperatures rising AAA is warning Wisconsin residents about ice dams which  can damage your roof and the inside of your home.  AAA spokesman Nick Jarmusz says ice dams are common in the Midwest and can form anywhere there are drastic temperature shifts.  Jarmusz says it’s important to know what you’re looking for because ice dams can cause costly repairs to your attic, walls, ceilings, insulation and flooring.  Ice dams form when heat inside the house enters the attic and melts snow on the roof.  The melted snow drips down the roof and re-freezes when it reaches the colder eaves.  This ice accumulation is called an ice dam.
