Hello Waupun!
It’s been another busy week as mayor, and I wanted to give un update of what I’ve been up to.
Last Saturday night, during the Pakers’ playoff game, there was a significant garage fire that broke out in Waupun. When I learned about the fire call, I thought to myself, “If the volunteer firefighters have to be out in subzero temperatures missing the game, their mayor can go see firsthand what they do.” So, I did. I stopped at the fire scene, spoke with police officers and firefighters, the EMR’s and the home owners. And while the fire itself was a terrible thing, I was impressed with our firefighter’s professionalism and commitment to Waupun, to have to battle a blaze in those elements. Not only did they have to fight a fire, they had to fight all the ice created from spaying water. The firefighters where cold, covered in ice, and missing a playoff game, but they saved the house, and no lives were lost. A huge thank you to all who serve on our fire department!
Wednesday, I had the privilege of job shadowing our School Resource Officer Grahamn Dumke. I was able to participate in a lock down drill at Rock River Intermediate School, then spent time at the High School were officer Dumke handled a few student issues, and we even had to intervein with some little kids who were being naughty at MVP. I really enjoyed learning about the School Resource Officer program, and the bonus was I was able to visit both kids and see my favorite teacher, Jenny!
This Saturday night, I’ll be doing more job shadowing with a police ride along. I do feel I learn more about what our departments do by tagging along, and it gives me a chance to thank our dedicated team. I love being Waupun’s mayor, but there is a responsibility for me to be well informed and to know why we do things we do, and by job shadowing I get a hands-on account of what’s up.
Finally, I’d like to thank County Executive Sam Kaufman for highlighting Waupun on Thursday’s “Steve Scaffidi Show” on WTMJ radio. It’s great having a county executive who recognizes that Waupun really does have it going on!
Thank you and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
