Fond du Lac city officials are taking steps to protect residents from future flooding events like the Fond du Lac River ice jam flooding in 2019. Wisconsin Insurance commissioner Nathan Houdek made a stop in Fond du Lac this week to highlight Flood Insurance Awareness Week. Fond du Lac is one of just 17 Wisconsin communities in the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System that Houdek says can save residents up to 40% on annual premiums. The city is also replacing two storm water pump stations with a new one on North Lincoln Avenue, an area prone to flooding. The city has also purchased flood damaged properties converting them into green space to mitigate flood waters and runoff.
