Bail was set at $25,000 cash for a Mississippi man who escaped while making a Fond du Lac County Circuit Court appearance nearly three years ago. WFDL news obtained a video of the escape through an open records request. Thirty three year old Terry Bacon was in court in July of 2021 when he suddenly sprinted and leaped over several courtroom benches and ran out the door. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Chris Dobyns says authorities think Bacon may have been hiding in a nearby apartment before eventually leaving the state. “It was definately a person that had the intent that he was not going to be taken into custody and he was going to do everything he could to escape the deputy and not face the warrant,” Dobyns told WFDL news. “You watch the video and see the people’s reaction in the courtroom and everybody is like “Did that just happen?” Dobyns says incidents like this are rare on the second floor of the city-county government center. “When reviewing stuff like this we take a look at what security measures need to be improved upon and we have made adjustments,” Dobyns said. Bacon was eventually caught and extradited back to Wisconsin where he was back in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court last week.
