The state DNR sturgeon biologist says the spearing season continues to be slow with treacherous ice conditions on the Lake Winnebago system. “So on both Lake Winnebago and the upriver lakes we have 201 sturgeon that have been speared,” DNR sturgeon biologist Margaret Stadig told WFDL news. “…about 140 on Lake Winnebago and just under 60 on the upriver lakes.” Stadig says the largest sturgeon speared so far weighed 113 pounds at a registration station on the southwest shore of Lake Winnebago. Stadig says snow last week night didn’t help.
