2-20-24 ballweg to co-chair national children, families and human services committee

Madison… Senator Joan Ballweg (R-Markesan) has been appointed to serve as Co-Chair for the Children, Families and Human Services Committee commissioned by the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).  Senator Joan Ballweg will co-chair NCSL’s committee on Children, Families and Human Services with Oregon State Representative Lisa Reynolds (D). Ballweg’s appointment to the national committee is a two-year term. Throughout her time on the committee, Senator Ballweg will have the opportunity to participate in NSCL events, serve as a speaker or moderator for committee proceedings, connect with other legislators from across the nation and share information about policies implemented in Wisconsin.   “I have always enjoyed my experiences learning from other legislators across the United States when attending conferences or informational meetings that are hosted by NCSL,” stated Ballweg. “I look forward to serving as a Co-Chair of the Children, Families and Human Service Committee.”   Throughout her time in the Wisconsin State Legislature, Senator Ballweg has authored many proposals that seek to enhance the lives of children and families. Recently, Senator Ballweg’s proposal to expand kinship care placements to those who are ‘like-kin’ was passed by both houses of the state legislature. Enactment of proposals like this are what Senator Ballweg hopes to see across the country in her time as co-chair of the NSCL committee.
