The Dodge County Sheriff says the death of an elderly man and his wife is a murder-suicide. Shortly after 6am Monday Columbus police were called to Prairie Ridge Health where a man had shot and killed himself in the emergency room waiting area. Dodge County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a welfare check and found the body of the man’s wife at their town of Elba home. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says an investigation has determined that 85 year old David Zittel shot his wife, Susan Zittel, then went to Prairie Ridge Health, where he entered the lobby, and shot himself. David Zittel was the chairman of Lyco Manufacturing in Columbus. Schmidt did not give a potential motive for the shooting.
