The head of the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin is praising Democratic governor Tony Evers for signing his new legislative maps into law. “I’ve been working with the League of Women Voters for 30 years, this was a red letter day for me. It’s perfect,” League executive director Debra Cronmiller told WFDL news. Cronmiller says she disagrees with Republican legislative leaders who said the new maps are gerrymandered in favor of Democrats. Cronmiller says Democrats are almost certain to gain seats, but she says the new maps are fair because legislative districts will now be contiguous and more accurately reflect the basic fact that Wisconsin is a purple state. Republicans have been firmly in control of the legislature for more than a decade even as Democrats have won 14 of the past 17 statewide elections.
